Surrounded by the Ashdown Forest, which according to the famous children’s author, A. A. Milne, is the woodland that inspired his Winnie The Pooh stories, the Ashdown Park Hotel and Country Club offers the heights of luxury in the heart of East Sussex.

Country house hotels in Sussex don’t come more luxurious, or offer such a magnificent combination of elegance, style, award winning dining and outstanding business and leisure facilities.

In 2001 while searching for new premises for her award winning garden company, Room in the Garden, Jan Howard was introduced to a totally neglected secret garden concealed within its original Tudor brick walls adjacent to the historic Cowdray Ruins. Jan was immediately inspired and agreed a lease with the Cowdray Estate which enabled her to restore the ancient garden to her own design in sympathy with its history. This privately funded restoration project was completed in 2005 thanks to Jan’s vision and energy and the support of The Cowdray Estate and The Walled Garden Sponsors.

“Its been a great privilege to restore this Tudor Pleasure Garden, a place where Henry VIII and Elizabeth I would have strolled. I am excited that The Walled Garden at Cowdray is developing as a Centre of Excellence and a historic and beautiful venue set in the countryside of West Sussex”

“The Walled Garden at Cowdray Wedding venue in Midhurst West Sussex is a historic Grade l listed site. It has two beautiful function/reception rooms namely The Courtyard Room and The Castle Room which are elegant by day and magical by night as well as an award winning garden set in the magnificent grounds of Cowdray Park adjacent to The Cowdray Ruins.

The venue which is licensed for civil ceremonies offers a most romantic setting for weddings. Blessings of a religious and non-religious nature may also be held in either of the functions rooms or The Walled Garden. Both rooms have excellent acoustics for music. There is easy access to the venue, ample parking, frequent train services from London and excellent local accommodation some within walking distance.”
